About Us

Wisconsin-based United Visual Products was born in early 1996 and operated out of leased space in a plant in suburban West Allis. Its founder and part owner was Gerry Garrett, former plant manager for Davson Corp., a visual communication board company owned by Rubbermaid and Eldon Office Supply.

UVP had one major goal: to produce an ever-expanding line of high quality, low cost visual communications boards. The company broke into the industry by specializing in custom-size products, but that was just the beginning. Soon it had expanded to standard industry-size visual communication boards.

For 10 years, United Visual Products has manufactured a core product line of Indoor Bulletin Boards, Outdoor Bulletin Boards, Letterboards, Readerboards, Dry Erase Boards, Outdoor Signs, Church and School Signs, Fabricboards, Pedestal Signs, Display Cases, and Custom Boards. Since our inception in 1996, we have expanded this core product line and introduced innovative new products to the visual communication industry such as our 3-In-1 Board (a Letterboard, Corkboard, and Dry Erase Board all in one!), versatile, injection molded Pedestal Sign, and Easy Tack Boards.

Then as now, the mission was to create a solid business relationship with dealers, distributors and wholesalers through which they can sell our full line of products. We got off to a fast start. The UVP dealer base mushroomed from zero to 1,800 in the first five years, and that figure now stands at more than 2,000.

In 1999, UVP closed out its fifth year of company growth. During the year, United Visual Products purchased numerous assets of a half-century-old Chicago picture frame, company. In October, the assets and customer list of BASS Bulletin and Directory Board Co. of Miami were acquired, increasing UVP’s product offering. That offering includes Directory Boards and Architect Signage.

Early in 2000, United Visual Products expanded further by purchasing equipment, tooling, and various assets from Day Runner/RAM Industries, located in North Little Rock, Arkansas. UVP also acquired assets and equipment from the former Stempel visual boards company in Coleman, Texas.

Toward the end of 2000, we also began an aggressive e-commerce campaign for dealers and end-user customers. Our aim? To make the United Visual name better known to businesses, institutions, churches, schools and the hospitality industry, our prime targets. It’s paying off. And our widening category of products makes us more and more attractive.

We expanded our product line even further in 2002, when we introduced our Crowd Control Product Line. This line includes Tape Posts and Rope Posts in a variety of styles to fit your crowd control needs.

In 2004, we introduced a new catalog that features our entire product line, including visual communication boards, crowd control products, and various mail processing equipment. Shortly after publication, we took catalog and Internet marketing to the next level and introduced an e-catalog.

The E-Catalog creates the look and feel of shopping from a print catalog. Consumers can "flip" through virtual catalog pages with the click of a mouse, browsing just as they would through a printed book. They also have the capability of zooming in on products for a closer look; making notes directly on the on-screen page using a sticky-note feature; and printing out individual pages. When customers are ready to buy, they can click on an image or a product description and add the item to their virtual shopping cart.

In some ways, E-Catalogs are even better than print. They can be accessed any time day or night, through the Internet. Consumers know they are looking at the very latest edition. And an E-Catalog can’t be lost or misplaced.
